LULAC Project Amistad provides Guardianship services to persons referred by the Texas Department of Aging and Disabilities Services. Transportation Programs

A summary of Project Amistad’s transportation programs include:

Medical Transportation Program
The Medical Transportation Program transports Medicaid eligible persons to and from their medical appointments, to the pharmacy, therapy, or for other approved medical procedures. For information about qualifying for this program call 1 (877) 633-8747.

New Freedom Program
This program is designed to transport persons with disabilities who reside in El Paso County to medical appointments, social visits, entertainment and to other destinations. VOLAR Center for Independent Living qualifies persons referred to the agency. For information call (915) 532-3415. Late night transportation service is available within the City of El Paso to persons who qualify. For information about this service call the Sun Metro Job Express at (915) 544-2514.

City of El Paso Accessible Taxi Service
The agency provides accessible taxi service 24/7 through an agreement with cab companies of El Paso. Referrals are made by cab companies when there is a request for an accessible vehicle that meets ADA requirements. Individuals can also request service by calling Project Amistad at 532-3415.

Job Access Program
Persons from rural areas are transported to job sites, interviews, school, and similar destinations. The agency operates two fixed routes; one in Far East and one in Far West El Paso. KOMEN for the Cure
Through a grant from KOMEN for the Cure®, underserved women and men undergoing breast cancer treatment, screening, and education are transported to cancer treatment centers.

El Paso County Transit Program
The El Paso County contracts with Project Amistad to operate the El Paso County Fixed Route Transit Program. These fixed routes provide transportation from rural areas of the County to points within the City of El Paso. For information call (915) 532-3474.

Area Agency on Aging
The Area Agency on Aging contracts with Project Amistad to transport persons to their medical appointments who are 60 years of age or older. For information about qualifying for this service, call (915) 533-0998.

El Paso Community College
Students benefit from a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between EPCC and Project Amistad. These students are transported from the Valle Verde Campus to attend a diesel mechanics shop in Far West El Paso County. A second group of students is transported from the Socorro area to the Valle Verde Campus.
